Memorial Day or Groundhog Day???

Memorial Day is a day to remember those that have passed. Well fortunately for me, that list is not very long. So to me Memorial Day means three day weekend. Many people spend Memorial Day at the lake, with friends and family, or maybe having a cookout. But how do parents of a newborn spend Memorial Day?

Well, for those that have seen the movie Groundhog Day, you will understand this. We will spend today just like we have spent every day for the last two weeks. It begins between 6:30 am and 7:00 am with Maggie not being able to fall asleep after she eats. Then Scott will roll out between 8:00 and 8:30. He will want his breakfast of pancake, rice krispies, and strawberries. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Mom showers and gets dressed. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Scott will play on his playground. Time for lunch. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Scott plays a little more. Scott goes down for nap. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Dad showers and gets dressed. Scott wakes up and has a snack. Scott goes outside for a little more playing. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Time for dinner. Get Scott dressed for the day (sure its after dinner, but never too late). Go down the street to the park to see what the weather is like. Come home. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Get Scott ready for bed (sure would have been easier to just keep him in his jammies). Read books to Scott and get him to bed. Feed Maggie. Change Maggie. Put her down about 10:00 or 10:30. Ann goes to bed. I catch a little Sportscenter or NBA playoffs and off to bed. Wake up call in 4 hours to feed Maggie. Day is done and what a success. Boy did that feel like yesterday and the day before, and the day before....

I understand that this is a short period of time in the big scheme of things. It will only be a few weeks and I will be able to tell you what day of the week it is or what I did yesterday. Enjoy the moment, right? So as you enjoy your day-off, if you think about us, just know there is a pretty good chance Maggie is being fed or changed.

All this to say, enjoy your Memorial Day.

For the love of PINK...

Well our house has officially been invaded by PINK...Before little Maggie, I could have counted on one hand how many things were PINK in our house (and none of them belonged to Scott or I). From PINK boppy to PINK blankets to PINK socks to PINK paint to PINK clothes, everything is PINK. I don't have a problem with this at all, but it is just absolutely amazing how PINK our house became with the addition of one baby girl. I don't feel like our house became blue when we had Scott. I guess that is just a part of having a girl. Again, not a problem, just an observation.

So far girls are pretty simple, just keep it PINK...

In honor of equal time, here is a little update on Scottie. The birth of his sister has helped Scottie score some pretty sweet gifts of his own. My co-workers got Scottie a set of water guns and we had a little backyard war this afternoon. Needless to say, I dominated this particular battle since Scott's little fingers can't squeeze the trigger yet. But hey, a win is a win. After getting out of his wet clothes, we snapped a couple shots to capture the moment. I gotta get this kid on a weight lifting program. Better hope he's fast, because he ain't gonna outmuscle anybody.

Adjustment Period

So Friday morning, Ann's parents left and we think Scottie has now figured out that he is going to have to share our time. Take lunch as an example. This is what he looked like today while Ann and I were eating our lunch.

But I think deep down he is really glad Maggie is here.

After Maggie's first week I thought it would be appropriate to post seven gems from the her first seven days.

1. Obviously, Maggie was born

2. I got an extreme closeup of the hardwood floors when Dr. E broke Ann's water

3. Scottie asked Ann if Maggie was kissing her when she was feeding

4. Scottie has all of a sudden started calling me dah-dah

5. The number of Maggie's diaper changes is getting pretty close to equalling the number of breaths I've taken in the last week

6. Good food all week. As Ann starts to not look pregnant, I am starting to look pregnant

7. I love the way Ann looks at 3:30 in the morning

In honor of one week.

O Sleep, Where Art Thou??

See how cute a newborn baby can be when she is sleeping. I mean how in the world can you look at her and not think she is the most precious thing in the world? Well, had you asked us 12 hours ago, we would have told you that this picture would never be taken. After waking up with dad following the Hornets beating the Spurs, little Maggie decided to not fall asleep again until approximately 5:30 a.m. So about the time we think we are doomed with a non-sleeper, she takes an afternoon nap like this and reminds us just how perfect she really is. Isn't life a roller coaster.

Oh and by the way, I've been meaning to post this. Just because we now have a boy and girl, that doesn't mean the first question out of your mouth should be, "so now you guys are done?" That's like asking a newlywed when the kids are coming. It's just about the most annoying thing you can ask. So, not talking to anyone in particular, let us enjoy the moment, and we don't have an answer to that question right now.

And here's to a peaceful night's sleep.

Hello World, Maggie is here!!

Maggie Ann McNellis arrived on May 10, 2008 at 3:05. She was 7 lbs. 14 oz. and is 20 inches long. After a little concern with wet lungs, that forced her to spend yesterday in the 'special care' unit, Maggie is now in our room and eating/sleeping great. We will be going home tomorrow and looking forward to our lives as a family of four.
Here are a few pics of the Big Day.

This is her first picture. What a cruel world!

Look it's my mommy!

Peaceful sleep in the 'Special Care' room.

Don't drop me Dad.

Short blond hairs = future toe head
I love my Big Brother

And the Happy family of four.

Oh yeah, I passed out when they broke Ann's water. If you haven't seen the tool they break water with, then Shut Up!!!
